E L Y S I U M

This image was my very first design on the first day of working on Elysium. Man the first 6 months of that project are without a doubt my favourite time as a designer. Each day or week the brief would be something like: 'MS 13 style gangster with robotic arms to replace those lost in a car accident', or 'brutal big prototype military synthetic fighting unit', or 'sexy robot lingerie model'... I shit you not. And I got paid too! If you check out the build website for my car project then those choice bits of mechanical hardware were paid for by drawing robots. Barely!

One of this fulla's arms is like a couple big links of a gold chain, and his hand can make hardcore intricate gang signs. He's being all tough-guy cool and exhaling the smoke through a couple ports in his neck that are controlled by his thoughts. Oh, that's an animated dog snarl tattoo too. Mean as cuz!

I hope to post heaps more concept art from the film once we get clearance, get ready for lots of nerdy explanations about how the designs work.

This image is all over the internet, so hopefully it's cool to post here.

  2. Ahah, this so great. I didn't get the gold chain arm at the first glance, but makes perfectly sense once you highlights it.

Very, very nice work, as usual. Luv it.

  5. Beautiful work as always Aaron, psyched about the movie but already tired of the whining from people who claim it's "too agenda driven" or my personal fave whine "It ripped off Halo" (GRRR stupid kids) when the scenario obviously deals with classic tropes as old as storytelling itself. Of course it's wrapped up in the most astounding plausible extrapolation conceptual work, when I discovered today that the grandmaster himself Syd Mead designed the space wheel...suffice to say extremely unmanly excited squeaking ensued.

  7. Saw it tonight, AMAZING visuals! Congrats! I have to watch it a second time, just to see all the tattoo designs I missed! (Caught the parts of this concept art that ended up on Matt Damon, and a cool hexagon skull). Brilliant designs for future/thug tattoos without being "too futuristic" or "too comically gangsta". I will definitely be getting variants of some of the hexagon-styled tattoos in the near future.

  9. So all of the robots in Elysium were based off of your artwork? Cool! Now that the movie is out is there more stuff you've been waiting to show but couldn't? Can we see?

  10. Cheers!
    Was a fun film.

Hey Olternaut, there were a bunch of us who worked on the robots during the project, including Christian Pearce, Leri Greer, Stuart Thomas, and Ben Mauro. Pearce did the final design that ended up in the film.

We're still waiting on clearance to show artwork, rest assured that when we get it I'll be chucking some art up!
